Classroom Newsletter January 7-11, 2013

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful break and are ready to rock and roll!

Math: Continue Multiplication. Please work on multiplication facts 1-12 with your child. We are learning many strategies to multiplication in class, and we do not have enough time to review every fact each day. We try to do at least 2 multiplication tables each day, but doing them at home will really help! I'm also, going to start doing multiplication fact quizzes at the end of each week. This week we will have multiplication fact quiz on the 1's and 2's times tables on Friday.

Langauge Arts: We are going to be spending the next several weeks learning about Verb Tense.

Spelling and Vocabulary:
Focus on Final "es"

  1. boxes
  2. foxes
  3. churches
  4. dishes
  5. couches
  6. brushes
  7. whole
  8. fraction
  9. fair
  10. share

Spelling Dictation:
1. A fraction is only part of a whole.
2. Put the boxes of dishes by the door.

Vocabulary:
  1. 1. pioneer- someone who begins a new and important idea, action, or event. 
  2. 2. invention- something that is created for the first time
  3. 3. unusual- not normal 
  4. 4. fashion designer- someone who creates clothes, purses, shoes, and accessories to fit a new style 
  5. 5. Women's suffrage- women's right to vote 
  6. 6. deduce- to guess about something using smart thinking
  7. 7. detective- a person who investigates crimes and gathers information
  8. 8. evidence- something, such as a witness statement or object that is used as proof of a crime
  9. 9. mystery- something that is secret and unknown
  10. 10. suspect- a person who is suspected (thought of doing) a crime  
Science: We will be learning about the stages of the moon, the stars and space research 

Social Studies: Please finish up your Flat Stanley Projects. We will begin presentations next Monday, 1/14/13. Presentations may be via iPad, Powerpoint or poster-board.
