Newsletter Week 22 1/28-2/1

Reminders:
   - Letters to the Troops are due 1/31/13; This is for a 50 point grade in Language Arts.
   - The End of the Unit Performance is Friday, 2/1/13
   - Continue Working on Multiplication Facts. Friday, 2/1/13 will be a test over the 4's.
   - Homework: I know that there are days when homework doesn't fit in, however it is not something that should become a habit. Homework is taken for a grade and can greatly weigh your child's average in the class. I always make an effort of rewarding hard work, whether it is in class, a school activity or homework. If you are unable to complete the homework for sickness or an excusable reason, please let me know.

Reading: Finish "Who Was Amelia Earhart" and take a test over the book on Friday, 2/1/13

Newsletter Week 21 1/22-1/25

Reminder:

  • There is NO school on Monday! Happy MLK day!!
  • If you bring a dollar for a student council, students may wear P.J.'s on Friday, January 25!
  • Student Council is doing a school wide project where students are writing letters to the troops. This will be a homework activity. Write this letter with your child. They are due January 31st. Please make sure they are spelled correctly, have proper punctuation and are neat. I will take this for a 50 point test grade in Language Arts. Thank you for supporting our troops and our student council as we embark on this new adventure together!    
  • On Friday, 1/31/13 there is free dress for those who purchase SCRIP

The students will have a test where they will correctly label and spell the 7 Continents and the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.

The students will work with partners to complete a research project on one of the 7 Continents and present it to the class. In their research, students will provide information on: 
           The geography of the landscape, the weather patterns, the people, food and size of the Continent.

Math: Continue Multiplication. Every day spend at least 5 minutes on multiplication facts.This Thursday, we will have a multiplication facts quiz over the 3's.  FRIDAY 1/18/13, we will have a TEST over this unit in math! 

Language Arts: Continue with our story on Amelia Earhart. Continue focussing on verbs: Primarily Linking Verbs and Irregular Verbs

Classroom Newsletter January 7-11, 2013

Math: Continue Multiplication. Please work on multiplication facts 1-12 with your child. We are learning many strategies to multiplication in class, and we do not have enough time to review every fact each day. We try to do at least 2 multiplication tables each day, but doing them at home will really help! I'm also, going to start doing multiplication fact quizzes at the end of each week. This week we will have multiplication fact quiz on the 1's and 2's times tables on Friday.

Langauge Arts: We are going to be spending the next several weeks learning about Verb Tense.

Spelling and Vocabulary:
Focus on Final "es"

Social Studies: Please finish up your Flat Stanley Projects. We will begin presentations next Monday, 1/14/13. Presentations may be via iPad, Powerpoint or poster-board.
