Flat Stanley Project

Dear Parents,
The Flat Stanley Project is going to be presented during the week of January 14. Please be prepared to present on the 14th. We will just take the students in turn. Thank you.

Here is a copy of the original handout. Please do not stress over this. I just wanted the student to share a personal experience about a different culture/place. Also, students are to share a culture which they are less familiar with. I am currently out of town and have limited service, but I will do my best to answer any questions via email. I have zero phone service. I hope this helps!

Flat Stanley Project

First Assignment:

The purpose of this project is to connect our lives with other lives around the globe. This can be anywhere from another State, city or country! Your job is to choose someone from another place, different from your own, who will be willing to take your Flat Stanley on a picture tour of their location. The goal is for Flat Stanley to be introduced to these new locations and share them with you. This will be done through the receiver taking pictures of Stanley with important monuments/places from their location. Then, the receiver will tell what each place is and why it is significant. The sender (student) will write a letter to the person they want to learn more from. In the letter they will write why they chose the person, what you hope to learn, and a little about yourself. You will mail your Stanley to the sender or send a digital copy via email. The person will take pictures with Stanley, and reply with a letter describing their location and information. These pictures and newly gained information will be shared with the class once it is completed. This place needs to be a unique place that has never been visited/or rarely visited.
You may choose your location. Our class will record on a map where each of their Flat Stanley's have been sent to.

Second Assignment:
Over Christmas break, you will take your Flat Stanley to a place you are visiting/spending time/a place of significance, and take pictures with him. Then, you will present the pictures to the class when we return. These places will be recorded on map as well to show the different adventures. Examples of places to take him could be:
1. A Farm
2. A city
3. A play
4. The mountains
5. The beach
6. The Zoo
We will be making Flat Stanley in class.
